Employ To ?employ? means to hire or to provide paid work for someone. ?We employ around 450 people, but this can change depending on the season.? The word ?employment? is often used as an adjective to describe organisations that deal with the hiring of workers. ?We have been using that employment agency for a while now but we haven't managed to find anyone worth employing.? ?Employment? can also be a noun and refers directly to jobs and paid work. ?Employment numbers are up again this quarter.? People or organisations who hire workers are called ?employers?. ?There has been a huge increase in the number of applications from employers wanting to recruit from overseas.? And workers that work for a company are often called, ?employees?. ?The mine has around 2,000 employees.?
